The 9-12 year old Junior Team went to two fire stations for the second year in a row to minister to the firefighters. One of the themes they were learning about was to show gratefulness and appreciation for those who serve in the community. The kids shared testimonies and did a program of Christian music, which the firefighters really enjoyed, and then toured the stations and fire trucks. This month they will reach out to the elderly at a convalescent home.
The teenage Senior Team started with a prayer day, visiting key locations all around El Paso and praying at each one. These included City Hall, the UTEP campus, the school district headquarters and an abortion clinic. This month they will minister to the homeless and Christmas shoppers at the plaza downtown and prepare for the January 2010 IGNITE youth conference near Albuquerque, New Mexico. This is the tenth annual IGNITE conference, which was started by King’s Kids El Paso and has become a major annual event for youth in the area.
One of the major aspects of discipleship for teenagers here at King’s Kids El Paso is the Intensive Discipleship Course (IDC). This series of 176 page, 12 week Bible studies has been produced by YWAM Publishing since 2007. The third book, Reaching a Lost World, is ready for printing and should be available in a few months! Book four is in the works. IDC is aimed at 15 year olds through college age and is designed with a mentor based approach for a parent or youth leader to disciple one or more youth. It’s especially being promoted to homeschool families as a Bible course for teenagers. Our largest group at King’s Kids was 46 people including youth leaders and kids. It’s a great honor to see the Lord use books I’ve written.
These are some of the high school students, college students and young adults in this year's Monday night course. Many aren't part of the local King's Kids team but heard about it from their friends. It's a great bunch of young people who are hungry to grow and I look forward to every week's meeting.
Books are available at the King’s Kids office for $15 each or from ywampublishing.com or Amazon.com. It’s even a Focus on the Family recommended book!
